A handful of randomness fo' yo' ass!
-Sunday night I had the good fortune of going to a hardcore show in overly-hip Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The show? Snapcase, 108, Mouthpiece, Supertouch, and Rhode Island's finest, Soul Control. And no, it isn't 1993, either.
Regardless, it was a very fun night. Driving into Brooklyn, myself and the three amigos enjoyed exchanging old hardcore punk war stories, "guy talk", and discussing flatulence at length. We had genuine New York pizza, grease and all. We met an awesome German kid who flew all the way from northern Germany to make it to the show. He ended up hanging out with us the entire night, talking about cultural differences and good beer (and recently friended me on myspace). We saw the amazing Manhattan skyline from the shores of the East River, with a half-mangled van lying next to us. New York, it's a hell of a town.
The show itself was a blast. Soul Control played a really good set, and I stage dove for the first time in years. It's amazing to see your friends making it big with their own band. They're huge!
Mouthpiece sucked. By far, 108 played one of the best sets I have ever witnessed. They were absolutely unreal, playing a huge chunk of songs off their Songs of Separation LP. And Snapcase should have stayed broken up. They (Snapcase) were just assholes, ignoring requests for songs, snubbing the infamous 108 and Soul Control backstage, and were total douchebags compared to when I first saw them in 1994. I also made the mistake of stage diving twice during their set, and fell flat on my ass both times. Ouch!
We didn't get back from Brooklyn until 3:30 a.m., and I had to be at work in Northampton by 9:30 a.m.! I'm still recovering.
-I've been pretty much working non-stop ever since I came back up here. I've written a shitload of stories and shipped out a shitload of backpacks this week. I even finished the dreaded Belchertown courthouse story that I've been putting off for a month. But it's done, and I'm relieved.
-Even though I'm poor, I still want an Xbox 360. But it'll have to wait until next year.
